Elbows Up
$50,000 for Charity
Shauna Madsen's first painting in her satirical series, "Elbows Up" was featured in the live auction during the Kevin Karius Celebrity Golf Tournament, and helped raise $50,000 with all proceeds going to Easter Seals.
“Elbows Up” is a symbolic, tongue-in-cheek tribute to Canada’s quiet power and enduring pride. Inspired by a real-life moment when a Canada Goose went beak-to-beak with a Bald Eagle and won, this painting reflects resilience through a uniquely Canadian lens.
Set at Waterton National Park, along the Canada and U.S. border, the work illustrates a crack in the landscape dividing the U.S. and Canadian sides—highlighting tension, strength, and unity. With humour, heart, and respect for our American neighbours, this piece is both a political wink and a cultural nod.

The "Canadian" Big Beautiful Bill
A satirical celebration of absurdity and identity
The “Canadian” Big Beautiful Bill is the second painting in my satirical series exploring the intersection of politics, power, and national personality, with a distinctly Canadian twist.
This piece responds to a recent statement by the current U.S. president, who dubbed a newly passed piece of legislation “One Big Beautiful Bill”, arguably one of the most baffling names to ever grace a national policy.
As a Canadian artist, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to reinterpret such an over-the-top phrase through a Northern lens, and of course, feature our Canadian Goose, Gus.
In true Canuck fashion, this painting blends irony with imagery, humour with heart, and speaks to our ability to laugh even when the headlines make us cringe.
While it’s playful on the surface, the piece also offers a pointed reflection: How do we define leadership, and what happens when political theatre meets real-world impact?
Through art, I invite viewers to engage with those questions, politely, of course.
🎨 Open Edition Prints Available August 1st
